F is for friday

F Is For Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Nomadic Worlds! I’m back, my friends, and I thought the best way to restart my posting for now would be by doing a meme that one of my blogging friends created! I really love this one. Make sure to join in on the fun! 😀

The heart is a lonely

I recently finished The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, and – wow – is that a crazy read! It’s definitely a very thought-provoking book with deep meaning and insight. I’m very impressed by her writing abilities at such a young age and how well she touched on very controversial topics.

left hand of darkness

I am really looking forward to The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. I honestly know nothing about it, so I would love to hear if you guys have read it! I am a mentor for a group of honors college students, and this is the book they are assigned to read. Being the curious bookworm I am, of course I had to read it, too!

F – Favorite quote of the week/day

This was shared with me by one of my professor friends. It is a little long, but it’s an impactful take on COVID-19:

“We fell asleep in one world and woke up in another.
Suddenly, Disney is out of magic,
Paris is no longer romantic,
New York doesn’t stand up anymore,
The Chinese wall is no longer a fortress and Mecca is empty.
Hugs and kisses suddenly become weapons,
and not visiting parents and friends becomes an act of love.
Suddenly you realize that power, beauty, and money are worthless and can’t get you the oxygen you’re fighting for.
The world continues its life and it is beautiful. It only puts humans in cages.
I think it’s sending us a message: ‘You are not necessary. The air, earth, water, and sky without you are fine. When you come back, remember that you are my guest.'”

F – Five things you’re happy or grateful for this week.

  1. You! Seriously! Whether I know you or not, if you are reading this, I appreciate you. I love the blogging community. Every comment, every view, every follow makes me so happy that I am able to share my thoughts and ideas with the world. Isn’t this platform for communication amazing?
  2. Dogs. Last year, I adopted a dog from a local animal shelter. I lost my dear 14-year-old pup a few years ago, and it has been wonderful to have a rambunctious canine to greet me when I am at home again.
  3. Star Trek. Although the pandemic has made a lot of things uncertain, I can still be sure that Star Trek will be on Sunday through Friday! I honestly hadn’t watched regular television in a long time, but lately it has become a family tradition.
  4. Flowers. It’s amazing how much a small bouquet can put a big smile on someone’s face.
  5. Health. Something we always seem to take for granted until it is threatened.

Thanks for reading! I’m so happy to have time to blog a little once again. I think I have come back wordier than I was before – oh dear! Haha. Stay tuned for some book reviews coming in the next few weeks! What is one thing you are thankful for today?
